Exiles is on a distinguished road
Hi all I am new to this forum and would like some feedback.

I am planning a trip from Sweden-Norway-Scotland-Iceland-Greenland through the Northwest passage this summer. If any of you have experience high lattitude sailing, sailing in ice, required equipment I would like to hear back from you. If you want more detail about the boat, trip etc. check it out and please give me your feedback. www (dot) belzebub2 (dot) com
Thank you
Our trip is on a small 31ft the link is Northwest passage on a shoestring

Hi Exiles,

great site, and congrats on the sponsor! Interestingly we'll be doing a similar trip in reverse next year, albeit without the northwest passage so far more tame. Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland etc.

We'll be on a 30 footer, although the custom bowsprit makes it bigger than you're 31 ;-)

I'm also very interested in information that is out there and people's experiences.

I can recommend the book by Willy Ker on Faroe, Iceland, Greenland (for planning, we'll see how good it is when we get there ;-) and the U.S. site has a huge amount of pilot charts and information for free download here: Maritime Safety Information

Some say it has less accurate information that UK and Danish charts, but there is still a ton of information there.

Good luck!

p.s. for your insulation, make sure it is closed cell or you'll be unhappy!

CalebD will become famous soon enough
Perhaps a bit off topic but meant to hone your desires for higher or lower latitudes there is this photo journal website of a trip to Antarctica. Antarctica Photo Journal (1)
Not made by me but interesting none the less.
As you were.

Others with extensive high latitudes sailing experience with web presences are
- the Dashews, www.setsail.com
- John Harries, www.morganscloud.com

The link to the Antarctica photo journal above is us, www.petersmith.net.nz, there is also an entry on southern Patagonia and coming soon are entries on the Falklands and South Georgia I.

There are a few others on here, but be careful with the armchair experts (here and everywhere). Qualify input. The people worth listening to are out there doing it.

Like the vast majority here I don't speak Swedish so you're out of luck with feedback based on your blog. Try specific queries in English here.

By the way, I don't mean to criticize your boat and I'm not familiar with it, but you will find a big favoritism of metal hulls when it comes to high latitudes. Answer yourself honestly what will happen when you hit a growler berg at six or seven knots.
