Good day ladies and gents,

after reading you (Sailnet) for a few years and dreaming to sail the seven seas I finally purshase a Bayfield 29 1984 in june 2010 as a practice boat until my retirment in 6-10 years. All the experience I had with boat was owning a 26 foot Doral power cruiser for 4 years. The wife and me enjoyed sailing last summer and the more we sailed the more we loved it. The learning curve was pretty steep and being military and working shift make my sailing education hard to manage, but eventualy we will get to it.

It has been a pleasure to read all of you guys and hopefully I'll see you around sailing lake Ontario.

Welcome to the family. The Bayfield 29 had quite a writeup in Sailing Magazine a few months ago. You've got a good boat there.

I am a Newbie to Sailnet too, but not to sailing. I have sailed tallships on three of the five great Lakes, as well as having experience on day sailor's. It sounds like you are enjoying your boat on Lake Ontario.

You wouldn't be anywhere near Oswego? My wife and I and another couple are planning a week on Canal boats this summer and are considering coming up the Oswego canal. Any great places (sights, events, etc.) that we should look for if we do that? Or maybe you aren't near that area.

Hi Chrisper,

Actualy I'm right across the lake close to Belleville (Canada) then I do not know the Oswego area. If you have a chance to sail toward Kingston you would be in the thousand islands which is awesome for boating.

If it is not possible to sail you would be 1-2 hours drive from Kingston which is a beautiful city to visit plus the islands that can be seen with tour boats.

Thanks for the tip... I have heard about the sailing around the 1000 Islands. Sounds good. Unfortunately we are renting a 43' canal boat for this experience. They are not made for the lake so we will just be going to Oswego if we chose that route. Half of the fun of a trip like this is planning it.
