New to Sailing

Hi all,
First time user and new to sailing, have sailed in past about 20 years ago, getting back into it. Just purchased 1988 spindrift 19 and I have lots of questions about this boat. I’m totally in love with it, but also totally confused and don’t want to set anything up wrong. I have a backstay that has about 2 foot play, not sure where it attaches any pics or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
