G'Day from Yeppoon

Yeppoon is located on the coast of Queensland about half-way between Brisbane and Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef starts about 50 nm south of here. Our local islands are the Keppel Islands. Great Keppel Island (8 nm) is the largest with 20 or so smaller islands in Keppel Bay. All have fringing coral reefs. The land to the north, for about 80 nm is an army training centre and the beaches are as Cook would have seen them over 200 years ago. I reckon it is some of the best sailing in the world!
I have a Northshore 33. You can tell a boats age by its transom. The Northshore has such high freeboard it is difficult to get in and out of from a dinghy let alone the water. I have just added a sugar scoop to the transom. The boat is now 36 ft long. The bottom level of the sugar scoop is 6 to 8 inches above the water line. I removed the transom hung rudder and mounted a through hull rudder. I did not touch the transom so hull integrity has been maintained. With weeks and weeks of fairing it has come up a million dollars and looks like a newish boat.
I'll be in touch.
Ross

Welcome. Lets see pics of the boat and local area. Make those damned yankees jealous.

We seems to be getting an influx of Aussies in here of late. Good to see.
