After a 10 year hiatus back to the sea I will go...

Even if my wife gets a little pissed or actually even if she gets a lot pissed.
I had the opportunity to fly to George Town Bahamas during Regatta to help bring a Caliber 40' back to Beaufort.I had a blast actually, real conch, real people, good sailing and I did not spend a dime.
The boat was really set up nicely, basically self sufficient with 4 solar panels for charging the batteries. All Raytheon equipment , which worked almost flawlessly. All lines were run back to the cockpit except for the third reef in the main and once you got used to where which line went where it was pretty decent.
We meandered from George Town to Staniel, went in at Black point and anchored in the little hole between Staniel and Sampson.Ate at Staniel and saw the saga of Bin Laden on the 46" flat screen at the bar.Last time I was there TV did not exist.Anyway we then went to Lucaya on an overnighter to wait for the weather to clear a bit .Then from Lucaya to Beaufort 3.5 days.
I then had an epiphany , I am going to get too damn old to do this and I had better get back to it before I do as I do not like regretting things that I did not do that I had the chance to participate.
So I am looking for a particular boat to fix up and do some sailing. In the mean time I have taken another ride on a Tartan 37'.I might be next helping bring a Grand Banks to Newport for the J Class extravaganza.
As stated wife is not happy....

1969 Crealock/Columbia 36 Sloop completely refitted in 2000 and new Yanmar in 2006.
Hey, if I can't be sailing at least I can be here!

Definitely get your wife sailing. Do whatever it takes for her to enjoy it. If she likes sailing flat and calm then do that when she is on board and save racing for when you are out with the guys. Try arranging a nice dinner at a romantic anchoarage and see if that works. Just a suggestion froman old married guy whose wife loves sailing as much as I do. I like to trim and twek the boat, she likes to know that we are under control and not healing too much. Compromise and we are good.

Good luck!

I will try to get her out if she does not kill me for buying a boat first.
I am going to be acting as crew on a few deliveries and she of course can not go on these , but good suggestions on trying to get her to participate.
I was the BN and sailor when she first met me oh so long ago and she let it be known way back then it was not appreciated that I would drop everything and fly out to a destination to pick up a boat and move it.
I adjusted to keep her happy back then ,but I am going to get too old some day to be jumping around offshore and I had better make use of my time properly and not have to look back in regret.
She has the three dogs and two cats that push me out of the bed as it is anyway..
Thanks for the help , I will get the boat and do my best to get her to participate on it and plan an over-nighter at the Cape while my friend looks after the extended family.

Why bother to buy a boat before you got your good lady out first? Seems like you would do well to show her what it could be like and try the "See what we're missing, dear?" tack. Just a thought...
