Hello from California

Hi everyone,

I've just started sailing. My family and I just took the ASA 101 and 103 classes and we are now ready to sail.

I've been looking to purchase a sailboat but don't know which one yet. Too many to choose from.

Any help would be great :D

There are many factors in the decision. What is your budget? Do you want to cruise, race or daysail? If you buy a used boat you've got to choose among those available. Can you fix it yourself? What about water depth? Do you need to trailer it? Ask yourself these questions, then post some of your options in the "Boat Review" section here.
Welcome aboard.

Welcome, Jeff. The wife and I are on the west coast, too.

WanderingStar has good questions. Can't tell you much until we know a bit more.

Thanks for your replies

My budget is between $10,000 and $20,000.
I'll be cruising or daysailing.
A used boat is fine. I can fix anything. I'm a jack of all trades type of person.
Not sure about water depth?

And you'll have to be to own a boat.

With your budget you might want to stick with around 30 feet or so, although in this economy deals can be found for larger boats. No matter what length, unless you already know how to buy a boat, you would want a survey done by a professional.

You might start with the Catalina 30. She's roomy and a proven boat for coastal and day sailing. I'm sure others will chime in with many other suggestions, too.
