Cool Looking to make new friends!

Sailing from Baltimore to Norfolk / October 12-16, 2011

Looking for two like minded crew members to join us (Rich and Terri) during the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race. Since we are a ketch rig we will not be participating in the race but we do plan to be a sponsor of the event, participate in the festivities, and follow the 50+/- schooners on our fall migration south.

Like us, crew will need to arrange their own transportation, offers to share expenses would be greatly appreciated, and we prefer if you have some sailing and navigation experience. The trip from Baltimore to Norfolk will be a 24hr overnight experience so a willingness to share nightwatch is a must.

Crew (couple preferred) will share the forward cabin which sleeps two and be expected to share in all the duties. Everyone is equal on board ... that is until they disagree with the Captain!

Itinerary is as follows:

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

We arrive in Baltimore and expect to
dock at Hendersonís Wharf - Fells Point

Parade of Sails ∑ 17:00 Hours ∑ Canton , Fells Point, Inner Harbor

All Hands Party ∑ 19:00 Hours ∑ This is a private (invitation only) party for captains, crew, sponsors and volunteers

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Cast-off for the Start ∑ The distance from the Baltimore docking area to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge at Annapolis and the starting line area to its south is about 21 NM.

Race Start ∑ The race begins just south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Annapolis as a magnificent gathering of schooner-rigged vessels begin their adventure down the Chesapeake .

Friday, October 14, 2011

Race Finish Line ∑ The finish line for classes A and AA is an east-west line at Thimble Shoal Light. Classes B and C finish at Windmill Point and proceed to docking in Portsmouth .

Friday Night Rendezvous ∑ 1830 Hours ∑ An informal get-together at Roger Brown's in Olde Towne Portsmouth ( 316 High Street ) for early arrivals.

Saturday, October 15, 2011

Schooners may be viewed dockside in Portsmouth on Saturday. Some may be open for tours.
Deadline for Calling in Finish Time ∑ 1000 Hours.
Pig and Oyster Roast ∑ 1300 Hours ∑ This a private party (invitation only) at North Landing Park for captains, crew, sponsors and volunteers. The race results will be announced and awards will be presented in the evening.

Sailors' Evening and Sea Chantey Sing-along ∑ 2100 Hours ∑ This is a chance for everyone to continue the post-race festivities at North Landing Park .

We plan to sail to our fall dock from there so you would need to get transportation from Norfolk to home.

You will have a nicely appointed private cabin and head at the bow of the ship which is a classic 1972 Hinckley H-49 CC ketch. Our cabin is aft so your cabin is as private as it can be on a 49' vessel. We would do this trip on our own if we weren't trying to follow the race overnight. We thought it would be nice opportunity to present to another sailing couple if they are a good fit.
