New sailor in Minnesota

Hey folks:

I've been vaguely wanting a boat for years and finally got one. It's just a 16' daysailer, but it has been a lot of fun this summer. I've taken it on White Bear and Bald Eagle Lakes a few times, and hope to get down to Lake Pepin before the ice comes. Maybe next year I'll get up to the Apostle Islands, which look like sailing paradise.

Anyway, it's great to find a place where other sailors hang out!

Hi,

I am brand new to this site, and have a Ranger 26 that I live aboard all summer long up in Duluth, Minn. I love sailing around the Apostle Islands. I just semi-retired to San Antonio, and will probably be living aboard in the next year or two. I think you'll love the Apostles.

Welcome to SN both of you! Nice to have some fellow MN sailors on here. Yes, you will love sailing the Apostles, I got up there twice last season but unfortunately, not at all this year. I belong to a boat club on Minnetonka and sail there as often as the weather, other things in life, and reservations allow. At least you guys each have your own boats.

Again, welcome to the asylum....

Re: New sailor in Minnesota

Hey All. Thought I'd bump this post with the sailing season right around the corner in MN (and likely already begun for the hardcore). I live in the twin cities and am looking at any opportunity to get out on the water this summer. I took ASA 101 last summer and want to take 103/104 this summer, but I'd like to get additional hours as well. If any of you are looking for a sailing partner this summer, please PM/email me.

I make it up to Cornucopia/Bayfield once or twice a summer (I hope to do the 103/104 course around the Apostle Islands), and I'm also available around the cities. I'm happy to spring for lunch, beer, etc. I just need to get on the water! Happy sailing!

You mean Minnesota has water that's not solid year-round? My.

We are one of the few beneficiaries of global warming.

In the past, though, we were limited to these:
