Noob

Aloha all from the beautiful island of Oahu!

I am just joining the site because I am interested in sailing and high seas adventure. I am about to separate from the army and want to set sail. I hope to use the forums to glean whatever info i can about blue water sailing. I want to buy a 40' or so boat, hire a captain and sail to the mainland. With the hope of getting all the experience i need to kick the skipper off at the dock and head back out.

I am dumb enough to want to get into it, but smart enough to know i need someone with me

Any guidane?

well I found a Cheoy Lee 36 from 1969 for around 40k and could spend a bit to hire a skipper. I know i have no experience with a long sail, how much should i expect it to cost to sail for 20 or so days, 75 gallons fuel, 240 of water, food etc.....
