Greetings!
After trolling through sailnet for the last few years I finally decided to become a member.
A little about me:
I am a US Army Captain from, you guessed it, S Louisiana. I've spent my entire life on the water and on boats of all types. Which means that after 33 years of seamanship, I am still an amateur since every time I leave the dock I learn something new.
Anyway my cruising area is now the NC coast and ICW. I recently bought a 1975 Helms 25 that is in fine mechanical shape but terrible cosmetic shape. Spars, rigging, and canvas all in fine shape as are chain plates, and above deck hardware. No soft spots on the balsa core deck. BUT, the last owner when sanding the hull down for fresh paint sanded all the gelcoat off the starboard side. So after "investing" in new gelcoat and paint products, the project became a little much and now I am the proud owner of the Helms 25. A lot of sweat and elbow grease and if the wind and tide work in my favor she should be ready for launching next summer.
I am looking forward to meeting the members and joining discussions. If there any questions for me, fire away.
