Hello from Georgia

Hi. I am looking to learn more about sailing this upcoming year with my main desire being to sail across the Atlantic (either to or from Europe) this year before I go off to college (I've taken a gap-year). I know a tiny bit about sailing and I know knots for scouts, but am without a boat and am looking to crew.

Yes, welcome! Sailing across the Atlantic is quite the feat. Do you want to be on your own boat or crewing on another?

If you want to do it on your own then let me suggest a little less daunting of a cruise, like down to the Keys.

Setting out across an ocean should not be taken lightly. Yeah, it sounds cool, daring, and exciting (it is). But it is also extremely dangerous for a novice sailor.

If you plan on doing it on your own boat, what size do you think you need? Do you have the money to buy and outfit one for such a journey?

I'm hoping to to crew on a ship. I don't have the knowledge or means to sail a boat across the Atlantic.

That sounds good Johnny.

I would suggest findacrew.com.

I used it a few years ago and I actually had some success with it. I had a position lined up to crew with a retired couple through the Carribean for a few months. Sadly I was unable to make the trip.
