Sailors to Cruisers

We've been a member for a couple years, but haven't posted since we first joined. We just became empty nesters and have begun persuing our cruising dreams in earnest. We have been sailing in the Midwest on a Com-Pac 19/II and studying anything we can get our hands on. We plan on moving down to our condo in Orange Beach / Gulf Shores in the next 1 to 2 years and use that as a base.

We are working hard on our short list of bluewater boats and have started a blog about our journey to keep our friends and family up to date on our adventure.

We'll be scouring the forum for info and advice.

Fair winds.

Mike and Brenda

I am also of the empty nest group, I bought a 1978 Columbia 8.3 last year after taking some ASA lessons. The wife and I are very new to all this, however, I would like to do more in the way of something more than the river/lake sailing we do now. We live in TN, and sail Lake Nickajack, part of the Tn river~~

Nice to meet you. Our oldest son just moved out of Nashville last weekend to start a job in Columbus, OH. He'll really miss that area.

We have been sailing for 5 seasons now, but boy do we still have a lot to learn. We hope to find a 23' - 26' boat to use in our lakes as well as Green Bay / Lake Michigan over the next 2 years. Then we should be moving to the Gulf Shores area where we will buy our first real bluewater cruiser. We started our short list for this search and posted it on our blog if you are curious.

Don't worry about setting aside a whole bunch of time. We have only been posting for about a month, so not a huge site yet. We enjoy writing it and hopefully it will be entertaining to those who follow it.
