Hello from the great state of Iowa. I am a complete beginner with about 3 hours of actual sail time on a small catamaran. I have had a long time interest in sailing and am finally in position to do something about it. I am taking step one, ASA 101, 103, and 104 training at a Michigan school this summer. I am not currently planning a boat purchase, but I am interested in charters until I am sure of my continued interest and skills. My life partner is supportive but not sure of her interest so that will be job two after I get myself up to speed. So, for the remainder of the winter I am studying my course materials, preparing to make the most of the training experience. Oh, did I mention I have a grandson who wants to be a member of my crew. Sweet!
I am probably going to end up sailing in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I have friends on water in both places. The Great Lakes have always been of interest to me. I grew up around them, swam in them and have wanted to explore them forever. That is part of the allure of sailing for me.
I am working hard to prepare for my class. I want to have the book side of it taken care of so that I can really focus on the boat stuff.
