Venture 22 in New Orleans

I am new to this forum. I used to race C-15s as an undergrad but since then have confined myself to small fishing boats and the occasional sail rental while on vacation. But the sailing bug bit again and I just bought myself a nicely maintained 1975 Venture 22 to sail in Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi Sound. It is tied up in the South Shore Marina.

Now, I am not here looking to be told how much McGreggors suck and the like. Heard it all, seen and sailed this boat and I respectfully disagree.

Just wondering if anyone has any comments on Ponchartrain, the Chandleurs and the Mississippi Gulf islands as sailing destinations. Also interested in the Mississippi River and the Gulf ICW under power.

Thanks

Welcome to Sailnet, JP.

My first boat was a 1972 Venture 2-22. It was a great boat on which to learn and took a lot of my abuse (restoration and sailing) with grace so no bashing from me.

I have no comments on your sailing grounds, just wanted to be an anti-anti-Venture voice. If you have not already checked it out, there is a small amount of information in the Gulf of Mexico forum.

Good luck with your boat.
