Hi from a Sailing Family

Hi All,

We've been lurking on the boards for a while but thought it is a good time to join.

We sail a Freedom 32 on Lake Michigan. We're a family of four with two kids age 11 and 9.

We are looking for a new boat, though, because we are taking a 1+ year family sabbatical starting this summer. We'll be cruising our new boat from Lake Michigan to the FL Keys and then Bahamas and who knows where. So, you'll probably see some questions about different boat models on our short list.

Ok, since you were thinking to ask, our current short list is: Slocum 43, Lafitte 44, Fuji 40, Vagabond 42, and Passport 42. We're looking for steady and safe (and will probably get slow in the package).

Thanks for reading.

Welcome aboard!
Slow is a matter of perspective. If you are already there, what does it matter?

(Ooooooh, wait until bob finds out you think his designs are slow...)

It's 5 o'clock somewhere:

I think only the LaFitte is one of Bob's...the Slocum and the P42 are Huntingford.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Re: Hi from a Sailing Family

Must say I have never considered my passports slow. I had the Passport 40 and now a Passport 470. They have incredible seakeeping abilities and although rarely first to the finish line, we have held our own and never last. It is a solid cruiser that enjoys romping along at 6 or 7 knots.
