Newbie in Connecticut
Hi - I've been lurking for a while and wanted to introduce myself.
My husband and I are newbie sailors. I sailed on a little Snark with my stepdad for a month every summer in Mission Bay in San Diego when I was a kid, and my husband sailed with his much-more experienced best friend when he was in his 20's. Fast forward approx. 30 years and we decided it would be a great thing to do together.
We've been taking adult beginner classes at Mystic Seaport for the past five weeks, and although I've managed to capsize the 9' Dyer Dhow twice (boy that water is cold this time of year!) and Mr. cthoops has gone in once, we are having a blast. Next month we'll be taking an ASA 101 course for three days (I'm calling it our "sailing camp") where we can get some experience on a larger boat and then we'll spend the summer working on our skills.
The plan in a few more years is to buy our own weekend cruiser, but for now we feel like there is so much to learn that we're better off waiting for a while.
Anyway, I've been enjoying the forums and am looking forward to what the future holds.
