Hello from Alaska

Hi all,

Just started sailing in an older Elite 32 with my family, and of course have much to learn. I have a heavy aviation background from maintenance to aviating in Alaska, but harnessing the wind in this capacity is new to me.
That is it in a nut shell; look forward to discussion with all of you.

Dave

Re: Hello from Alaska

Welcome aboard! Your aviation experience is a good head start. Navigation, weather, and caution are integral to both.

They say flying and sailing are very much alike: "Long stretches of monotony punctuated by moments of shear terror."
There are a thousand anchorages in Alaska. All visited regularly by legions of mosquitoes and enough rain to drown a fish. I think I'll sail back some day since I met my wife there 32 years ago but I have no illusions as to what a massive tide can do to your ground tackle.
