Introduction: Drum Roll.......

I took the ASA Basic Keelboat class in St. Pete back in 2000. I later did some sailing/racing on other folks boats at Lake Maumelle, Ar. This included a Colgate, Catalina and Santana. The boat conditions ranged from "Brand New" to "Is this going to sink?".
I went on a Windjammer cruise to the French West Indies in 2006 aboard the Polynesia but there wasn't much sailing, it motored most of the time. I did take the outing on the 12 Meter America's Cup boats while in St. Maarten, that was GREAT!
I haven't done any sailing in the last several years, I just watch "Distant Shores" on TV. I used to read Sailnet back when I was sailing but never registered. I'm retired now and might find some time to sail so I thought I'd start reading up on it again.

Welcome, Trebor!

I, too, am a Distant Shores fan. The Shard's old (new-ish) 42 Southerly is in my marina at Rock Hall, MD.

I've got the series programmed to record automatically and am about caught up on the episodes. I was confused for a while when they were showing the 49'. They never went into any depth of why they upgraded so soon.

Re: Introduction: Drum Roll.......

It was just a couple of sentences in one of the episodes. They had the 42 in the Bahamas when they were notified by the company of the soon-to-be-made 49 and did they want to trade up? They jumped at it and skedaddled back over to England.

I didn't get the impression that it was anything more than that.

Must be nice.
