Retired and ready to go

We, my wife and I, recently retired and want to sail for a couple of years. I have take ASA 101-103 and really loved it. My wife has never been on a sailboat and I would like her to experience one before we buy. I know there are charter companies but they are terribly expensive for just a day or two on the water. Anyone have a suggestion or experience to help?

We are in Baton Rouge, Louisiana area. We have no problem traveling for something we want to do, see or buy.
