Greeting from Phoenix / Redondo Beach
Hello everyone! My wife and I, after being transplanted to and lived in the desert for 5 years now from the Great Lakes, have finally managed to get a new to us sailboat and are now able to get back on the water.
We purchased a 1977 34' Chubasco built, Doug Peterson designed, sailing yacht and look forward to getting to know the waters of Southern California in and around Santa Monica Bay. We have already utilized some advise here on Sailnet and look forward to being part of the community. |

Greeting from Phoenix / Redondo Beach
Welcome aboard fellow Phoenician. Not sure if you are aware; but, we have an active sailing community here in Phoenix. The Lake Pleasant Sailing Club and the Arizona Yacht Club are both good - and both have members that sail in California. Lake Pleasant makes for some really nice inland sailing.

Re: Greeting from Phoenix / Redondo Beach
Welcome, Dozer,
October 6 is the beginning of the fall season for the Arizona YC at Lake Pleasant. Because the lake is away from the main part of Phoenix, some people like to camp in the park for the weekend. Also, the AYC has monthly meetings (usually the second Tuesday of the Month, but I think the October one will be a day earlier) and some of these get some really good speakers and presentations. These meetings happen at the golf course restaurant at the Rolling Hills golf course near Papago Park. << Hall of Fame sailor and teacher Dave Perry. Special meeting date to meet Dave’s schedule: Monday, October 8, but the regular meeting time and place, the Caddy Shack @ Rolling Hills Golf Course, 1415 North Mill Avenue, Tempe. (map) Dinner at 6. And come prepared for a longer than usual meeting, about two hours (but if you need to leave early, we’ll be taking an intermission). >> |

Re: Greeting from Phoenix / Redondo Beach
Dozer, you have a fantastic excuse. Some of the AYC folks I know have boats in southern California, and have an annual Catalina cruise in cooperation with one of the SoCal clubs.
Oh are there pictures of your boat somewhere, especially maybe underway? Folks here always respond well to nice boat pix. |
