Newbie in Croatia
Hi. I had done the rya certifications years ago but really had no experience since then, I decided to do a flotilla in Greece last year and managed to survive that ;). That gave me the confidence to buy my own boat an oceanis 393 last October. Since then I've spent about 6 months in Croatia this year sailing and learning bucketloads ;) luckily enough my job allows me to work remotely with an Internet connection.*
I generally sail singlehanded or if I do have people with me they are all novices. *My boat is based in split and I've got a good bit of experience around the area and know it fairly well. I've had a couple of interesting experiences over the last year. *But it's all being a learning experience ;)*
Would love to meet up with anyone else who sails around the area.*
Re: Newbie in Croatia
Excellent lifestyle decision, but I would not do singlehandedly. I am sure there won't be any lack of willing crew to take on board for some help and company. I was sailing in Croatia for 10 days this summer from Split all the way south to Budva and Boka Kotorski bay in Montenegro and back, it was fantastic. As it was the peak season, we took the outer islands route to avoid the overcrowded and overpriced places such Hvar etc. My only complaint was that almost everyday we had a prolonged periods without any wind around mid-day and some bureaucratic overcharges (and double charges) in certain locations.

Hi there - sounds like you made a wonderful decision to sail around Croatia. I hope that the internet connectivity is as advertised! The last two years we chartered boats from Bodrum in Turkey and the Eolian islands off Sicily. Both were very nice and offered very different sailing.
We've been in the north of the Dalmatia coast (from Pula to Korcula) by car and ferry and loved it. We would like to bareboat out of Dubrovnik in July. Do you have any experience or suggestions for nice remote areas with good local food? and a good but inexpensive charter company?
Thanks so much! Cesare.
