ahoy!

i wanted to take a minute and say hello to the locals here before beginning the usual barage of questions from a new user. as a kid i sailed sunfish and hobie cats during the summer in upstate ny. i have been cruising since the early 90's, although much of that was in more of a livaboard situation. my first boat "donabella" was a mahogany 24' english channel cutter that i found in fort lauderdale. after docking on the new river for 3 years (with much work to be done from the neglect of the previous owner), i then sailed her down to boot key harbour and stayed mostly at anchor for another 2 years. after selling her i was boatless until 2003 when i purchased my current vessel "grumpy II". she is a 1970 columbia 34mkII which has since seen gale force winds and 13' seas while cruising the east coast. currently she is on the hard by lake oneida waiting for for next endeavor with my partner and 2 children, who enjoy boating as well. this summer we are planning a cruise in the 1000 islands, so any local info is appreciated. also, i know a few of the boaters we have sailed with have told me of this forum so if you are reading this, hello again to you!

eta: mods, i didn't see the introduction thread before posting this, feel free to move if desired.

Re: ahoy!

one of the reasons the boat is on oneida lake is that i grew up about 3 miles from sylvan beach. i had grumpy on the hudson at kingston, but found i was going to help my parents too much to use her there. so we brought her across the erie canal 2 summers ago.
