Has anyone removed the original Al fuel tank?

After removing the wood sole, how much fiberglass needs to be cut out to remove the original Aluminum fuel tank?

On mine it looks like a plywood floor and a 12" 2x6 needs to be cut out. Even then I don't think the tank will come out without cutting some of the fiberglass pan. Anyone tried removing the original fuel tank intacked? I'd like to repair and replace the original tank.

Most of the tanks I have ever seen that were taken out weren't worth repairing. Pretty much the whole bottom would have to be replaced. Generally, it gets pretty corroded. You could patch one hole, then have another show up a month later.
I had to replace one in my last boat, and when I picked it up, most of the bottom stayed in the boat. I was amazed that it had held fuel at all.
The tank in my Irwin 37 was replaced by the previous owner, and I didn't see what had to be cut to get access. He cut the top off the old tank and installed another tank inside it.

If you have any pictures, you might post a couple.
There's been quite a bit of discussion about it in the past.
