New Irwin Owner

Greetings all!

My wife and I just purchased a 1969 Irwin 27, and are in the process of restoring her!

We have her currently wet slipped at Lake Travis near Austin Texas. our plan is to move her down to Pallacio this Summer once we are done with the restoration. We will keep her there as a coastal cruiser.

How do you restore something in the water?...Dale

The same as you would any boat. For instance Last weekend I had to install a new Centerboard block. So I brought my tools and supplies and knocked it out. this weekend, new windows, same deal.

I have ordered the parts to redo the marine toilet and holding tanks. Little by little we'll get her done. I will have the exterior "re-coated" when I pull her from lake Travis to wet slip down in the big blue near Pallacio.

Congratulations!! My husband & are also working on our 1975 Irwin 42'. Right now we are painting the deck & replacing the nonskid. Also replaced fuel tank & water tank. Next up is the installation of a windlass. The list is never ending.... but we wouldn't trade it for the world!!

Congrats! We too are also in the process of refitting our new 1984 Irwin 38". Right now we are working on the interior. New cabinets, making forward head dedicated shower, new cushions, converting old ice box to sit down nav station, and lots more. Later this summer have her hauled to do the hull, cb, and decks.

We LOVE her and cannot wait to move aboard and start cruising (again)....

hi everyone My name is philip and I own and refitting a 64 Irwin 28 ft.....doing the inside and out, have it in evereet.wa on the hard.....I plan to retire next year and finish her out and then hope to sail down to mexico..............do you guys ever have any problems getting window for you boats?.......phil

Hi my name is alan and i recently purchased a 1978 30ft irwin. So far i am happy although it needs a little work i could leave on a voyage right now if i wanted to. Though i have been on the water all my life this is my first sailboat so i am unfamiliar with many aspects of it all but am learning. MY first question is at how many hours should i overhaul my yanmar 2qm15?

What is it you think should be done every 750 hrs?? An over-haul...to what extent? I usually equate an over-haul with at least a top end complete tear down...seems excessive for only 750 hrs, but I am no mechanic...just want to hear more on this....

Also, New Irwin owner....good luck in your task, I just did a mini restoration on a 76' Irwin 30, beefed up the bulkheads , fixed the plumbing issues added a bunch of nice mahogany to warm it up inside ( it was a spartan type race set-up) and so much more. Was allot of fun working on her, but of course as others have noted...it is a continuous seemingly never ending job, but there is the beauty of it all, re-creating something new from something old, along with a satisfaction of actually getting something done...Fair winds!
