Would you buy an IP with electric drive?

I am wondering about the resale value of an older IP with hybrid drive system rather than the orginal diesel. This system would use an electric motor to drive the prop.

The motor could be powered from the larger on board battery system or directly from a diesel generator located where the diesel engine is now.

The advertising post on yachtworld (or where ever) would only say this:

Series Hybrid drive system using 48 volt battery bank, diesel generator and 8KW drive motor.

The ad specs would also show the effect of having a generator on board but otherwise would look rather average.

I'm looking for your knee jerk reaction rather than a researched opinion.

If I had to repower, I would look into it.

Hybrid drives are nice for eco freaks who don't research the toxic manufacturing processes of batteries, longevity of that toxic battery bank and the simple fact that 8kw is 8kw, and 8kw isn't enough to move the boat without the battery.
Besides, 600 miles out is not the place to be for a complex drive failure. Simple works or can be grease monkeyed to repair. "Anybody got a spare zener diode part number a-15-34.q" is not going to have many response on the VHF net in Bora Bora.

It's just not ready for prime time.

A hybrid drive costs about double a conventional diesel direct drive. So it would need some careful looking at to check its condition and it set up. Nigel Calder's building a complex system into his new boat, so there should be some interesting articles to come.
