Reefing Hook

Sojourn's gooseneck doesn't have a hook for reefing, but it has a jiffy reefing line and cleat on the port side of the boom, so I suspect it used to exist. Does anyone know what it came with? 1975 I-30 Mkii.https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...eat=directlink

My 1984 Bahama 30 differs from your Mk II only in minor details. The reefing hooks are on the the gooseneck. You can find some good examples of reef hook / tack assemblies on this page. My reefing hooks look like K-10501, but I don't know the bolt size and the boat is an hour and a half away. You'll have to examine the current gooseneck assembly to see which bolt size you need.

I hope your main sail has cringles for reefing points. If not, have a sailmaker add them.

You'll also need to run reefing lines. Tranquility Base has Kenyon spars. The Kenyon boom has two interior single reefing lines (one for each reefing point) that serve as outhauls for the two reefing clews. Needless to say, you use only one reefing line or the other, depending on which reef you want to set. Each reefing line ties to its own fitting most of the way aft on the side of the boom, runs through a cringle in the reefing clew, and then goes to a sheave at the aftmost end of the boom. From the roller it goes through the interior of the boom and emerges at the gooseneck end into a cam with a lever that holds the reefing line in place once it is tightened. Sorry, I don't have any pictures.
