I30MKII Eyebrow rail removal - opinion

Sojourn's eyebrow rail was in pretty sad shape and appeared to be the source of water getting into the cabin. It turns out that only one or two of the screw holes went all the way through the cabin top. I filled the holes with marinetex and am debating whether to replace the rails or paint a stripe to match the cove stripe. If I replace the eyebrow rail, I'll make a new one, finish it in the garage and attach it with 4100 or similar rather than screws and bungs.

Anyone done this? Opinions?

have an 81 Bahama 30, that when I bought it the eyebrow rail had been removed and the holes filled with epoxy, I still havn't gel coated them yet! I think it looks good without the eyebrow, the boat is small so it doesn't look cluttered.

The fact that screw holes for the teak eyebrow don't penetrate into the cabin isn't relevant: If water gets under the skin, it'll eventually seep into the cabin or, worse, start rotting the balsa or plywood core.

I'm planning a similar fix soon--removing the wood strip, filling screw holes w/epoxy, repainting--on my Catalina 25.

Here's my question for the sage readers of this site: Instead of a paint stripe, can I use the vinyl boot striping that comes in rolls? This would likely give a cleaner line than just masking tape, and it'd cover the slight imperfections from the filled holes.

But would it stand up to the inevitable foot traffic and abrasion?
