The fact that screw holes for the teak eyebrow don't penetrate into the cabin isn't relevant: If water gets under the skin, it'll eventually seep into the cabin or, worse, start rotting the balsa or plywood core.
I'm planning a similar fix soon--removing the wood strip, filling screw holes w/epoxy, repainting--on my Catalina 25.
Here's my question for the sage readers of this site: Instead of a paint stripe, can I use the vinyl boot striping that comes in rolls? This would likely give a cleaner line than just masking tape, and it'd cover the slight imperfections from the filled holes.
But would it stand up to the inevitable foot traffic and abrasion?
