Palmer 60 troubleshooting

Hi all, I have a 1974 Islander 30 MK II with a Palmer 60 marine engine. Recently I was motoring along and the engine died with no warning, after a brief panic we were able to restart, this happened a second time, after restarting we headed in only to have it die just outside our slip, good luck, we coasted in. Plenty of fuel, with the key on I checked the fuel pump and it was pumping and fuel was flowing through the visual filter. I reached along the starboard side of the engine and placed my hand under the carb and gas was being pushed out the carb throat. Is this caused by a stuck needle valve in the carb or what????? Any help or suggestions would be great.
thanks, and Happy Sailing,,,,,,,,,,,,Rick

Kinda sounds like flooding, esp if raw fuel is escaping. Sorry not to be more specific...

CalebD will become famous soon enough
Most likely the float needle valve is stuck.
A quick fix involves tapping the float bowl with a screw driver handle (works on an Atomic 4 Zenith carb).
The main cause can be crud in your fuel supply. Check or pump out your fuel tank. Look for E10 phase separation floating under the fuel.
