I28 - Mosquito Protection for Main Hatch
Just wanted to share that I built a nice mosquito protection hatch for my I-28. The companion way on my 28 has the main sliding hatch and inside below the runners for the hatch, are strips of teak that run along under the hatch. These are perfect for a hinged slide-in frame that you staple screening onto.

The gap between the main hatch and the teak rails under is about 1" so any framing material 3/4" thick by 1" to 1 1/2" inch wide is suitable. I couldn't find any suitable teak so used cheap finger joined pine. Measure carefully the width between the glass sides of the companion way at the forward and wash board ends (not the same width) as well as the length between the forward end and the companion way with the boards in place. I hinged mine so that you can leave the screen in place to allow for easier entrance.

Carefull measurement will allow the screen to remain in place and allow you to slide the main hatch overtop and allow the washboards to remain in place.

I can provide pictures if requested.

Yes, please do! I'd love to see your approach to the problem.

if you spent less than $100 on it then you should also post about it in the Sailnet the "low buck" projects thread.

Re: I28 - Mosquito Protection for Main Hatch
Hi there Tom: I will take a few pics when at the boat this weekend and attempt to post when I get back. This approach would only work on the I28 as a friend with a I32 doesn't have the same amount of room under the main hatch to fit the screen.
