Another Attalia problem

Under the cabin floorboard, there is a sump where the bilge pump hose sits. Above this and between the ribs there is a bit of wood fibre glassed into the structure. The bit of wood is about 3 inches wide and about 18 inches long.
The bit of wood is rotten and beginning to smell. I need to get it out.
Anyone know its purpose and has anyone else had this problem?

not sure

I can't picture the piece of wood that you are describing, but I'll take a look in my bilge tomorrow.

I don't think I have this piece of wood in my bilge... The only thing that seems similar is a lip of wood attached to the underside of the cabin sole that supports the port side of the removable section (of the sole) over the sump.

I too own an 85 Attalia, and recently replaced the wood that makes up the sides of the motor box and had to fiberglass them to the bottom. I can't picture the peice of wood you described. Post a picture if you can.
