Heading North

We're heading out on Sun. Aug.2 and should be in Killarney by the 4th or 5th and then Baie Fine for several days. Maybe see some of you up there.

Enjoy! We found The Pool in Baie Fine to be overgrown with weeds already in early July, so proceed in slow if you go to the pool.

Unfortunately the Pool has been that way for many years. We were in there 2 years ago and sat agonizing on whether we should stay or not. We spent several summers canoing Killarney Park and I had seen the Pool 25 years ago. It became a destination on the "Bucket List" We eventually headed back out into Baie fine and anchored elsewhere along the bay.

Same with us. We entered the Pool and immediately exited. Definately the most overhyped anchorage in the North Channel. We had so many weeds on the prop and shaft when we exited that I couldn't get her over 2 knots at full throttle so we had to put on a mask and clear the weeds.

We found Baie Fine, outside of the Pool, to be spectacular and ended up anchoring in the narrows on the approach to the Pool. The hike to Topaz Lake is a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Now imagine carrying a 50 lbs. backpack or a canoe over the trail up to Topaz. It's one of the portages we did many years ago and the toughest I've ever seen.

I was surprised at the dozens of boats anchored down the narrow approach to the Pool.

The biggest attraction to the Pool is the reputation from years ago, I think turn of the Century, when Yachts would go in there and anchor. It became a legendary destination and maintained it's reputation over the years.

What a great picture! Is the water level down this summer? I hear summer has been great so far.

In most of the norhtern lakes we had more summer by the 4th of July then we had all of last year. Since then, more of the same. Let's hope it last all the wasy through September this year.

While we were in the NC in July the water level was reported to be .2 meters above chart datum.

Thanks. Strange that it's up since there was barely no snow this winter or rain this spring.
