Hey tkeesling(Tom) is right. We all know by now again that Lake Michigan can be wicked (Chi-Mac race accident) but it also can be calm. I crossed to Chicago and back earlier this month and there was no wind except for a couple of hours each way.
The night "sail" was great and using the Google Sky Map application it is amazing which planets, stars, and constellations you can pick out. Yes it is also unbelievable that 30 miles from land flies can still find you.
The reward being, sailing at night towards Chicago with the morning sun lifting the haze and shining on one of the nicest sky-lines in the world. And then when sailing back to Michigan having the sun set behind you all while Lake Michigan is 0-1 ft and 1 week B-4 the Chi-Mac race. (see below)

going West 2 hours out

going West 1 hours out

going East 2 hours out

Almost home looking behind us (towards Chicago)
