Learning in Luxury
Another way to find out if sailing is for you is to have a vacation at the same time. If you want to cut out the basic stuff and go right to sailing in a tropical paradise destination, there are captains and crews waiting for you throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and the South Pacific. Some charters are instruction-oriented, while others emphasize eating, sleeping, and lounging in the sun. You can play on water toys if youre up to it while the captain and cook care for you and your companions. Tantalizing edibles, exciting nightlife, and sightseeing can all be included if your checkbook is up for the task. A 50-foot sailboat with all the captain, crew, and all the goodies can run in the neighborhood of $9,100 a week, depending on the season and the location.
