School in SE Wisconsin / Chicago area.

I am looking to learn. I contacted the yacht club in my home town but it will be nearly a year before the next school is conducted. Are there any schools around here and what do you know about em, costs, reputation, equipment. Im willing to drive as far south as Chicago, and as far north as Mequon. Any ideas? I was told there was a good school that was in Milwaukee, but I don''t know the name.

I know this post is a few months old, but I''ll respond anyhow...

The Racine Yacht Club offers a program in the spring--4 weeks of classroom followed by 4 weeks of on the water. Reference www.racineyachtclub.org.

Check out www.sailingcenter.org for Milwaukee resources.

Hope that helps!

Milwaukee Sailing Center in McKinley Marina has a nice program that includes not only learning to sail but use of their boats as a member after you learn. I think a membership is about $450 per year. Also the Milwaukee Yacht Club has both a youth sailing program and an adult sailing program. If you join the club you have the use of their Ideal 18 fleet.
I would also check out the South Shore Yacht Club. They are on the South side of Milwaukee - down near the town of South Milwaukee. I don''t know if they have a school but I would be surprised if they did not.
