Re: learned long ago on a Sunfish... bought a vintage Sidewinder

WOW... got a chance to look through the link... storage bags, drink holders, clear lids... perfect...

how about a replacement bailer ??? I see mine is all bubba'd up with silicone... so not sure if it works, or just leaked around the fitment ??? anyway, the ports & the bailer were the only issues I've found so far... even got a new sail... ( may be a spinnaker sail, but I haven't put it next to the main sail, so it just may be a replacement ??? ) if it's a spinaker, that would be a whole new thing for me...

Re: learned long ago on a Sunfish... bought a vintage Sidewinder

This is purely cosmetic, but anyone know where to get corner trim that looks like this ??? the one on the other side is broken & missing

also... a lot of rigging in this picture... can anyone tell me what the wood rod with the hooks on both ends is ??? I see things like that in the spinnaker sail sections... don't know enough about them to tell yet if I have a spinnaker sail in the bag with the other sails

That's neat! I've never seen inspection ports used in that way.

I can't make out the rod with the hooks at both ends, but your description sounds like a spinnaker pole.

I sailed a sidewinder (1973 I think) for a number of years. Now being restored and enjoyed by my brother. Great little boat. You are going to have a blast.

no spinnaker on a sidewinder, but it is a whisker pole for sailing down wind with the jib wing and wing. holds the jib out on the opposite side as the mainsail.
the corner piece might be a tough one but check with the Bass boat places they use that type

thanks for the info guys... I think I want to replace the inspection ports, before I put her on the lake, just to keep a little more water out of where it doesn't belong...

Hi magnum, happy to hear your sailing a 71 sidewinder. We had #183 when I was growing up on cape cod. I'm working on a project and wondering if you could assist. I just need a really good photo of the snake logo and its measurements. If you could help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for considering, Shelly

unfortunately, I haven't had time to get the boat out since I bought it... but this is a pic of the sail logo ( if that's what you were looking for ) from the pictures, when I bought it... I could pull some measurements later if needed...

Re: learned long ago on a Sunfish... bought a vintage Sidewinder

Thanks so much for the photo! That will work just fine. I'm designing some t-shirts for my brothers and sisters, since we loved that boat. Also working on a shower curtain... lol, sounds funny, but I saw a design that had sailboat numbers on it for a nautical look. Our Sidewinder was red too. Dad bought in in 71. He passed in 79 and my mom sold it to our friends who still have it on a lake in Maine. The Sidewinder brings back many fond memories of sailing every single weekend on Cape Cod and once my Dad and brother even raced in the Grand Nationals at Lake Erie. Sure hope you get out there this season and enjoy your Sidewinder. Sincerely, Shelly
