Yet another what is this rigging question.
 
I'm new to sailing and have some questions. I bought this sailboat recently and it was a club racer. It is a Cal29 and came with jib, 160 Genoa, storm jib, and spinnaker and whisker pole. This boat was raced by Robert Riggle, he was one of the people killed by Somalia Pirates a couple of years ago. If you raced in the Seattle Singles races you may know the Boat Swept Away.

Can anyone tell me what this rigging is for. It is a line tied on port side of boat then goes to a block with a smaller quick clip. Then wraps around to the starboard side with another block anchored to that side. Then to piece of hardware I don't know the name of. Then the line heads aft to cockpit. The other piece of hardware I don't know the name of is just a block with three pulleys that direct and line up the lines leading to the cockpit.

Where is the upper end of that first tackle connected?? Could be a cunningham if it goes into a cringle 6 inches or so above the tack of the main. Not the best led arrangement but it could work.. btw your lines need a good cleaning!!

The triple blocks on deck are simply called turning blocks.

Cunningham was my bet too.. if so the other end likely has a hook on it, to hook it onto the cringle just above the tack. Sometimes rather than a cunningham hook, the line goes up, through the cringle, and attaches back to the boom (or mast).

I' m Sorry, I don't know the right vocabulay...Did you have a traveller running across the boat before the mast for the jib? A"self-tacking-jib" would be the direct translation from German. Than the sheet could run there.

I'm also with those saying your hardware is part of a Cunningham or boom down haul.

Could it also have been used for a Barber hauler??? Hence, both sides of the mast???

GREETINGS EARTHLINGS ; looks to me like the down-haul for the main sail looking by the sliding track on the first pic. Does the main sail have a cunningham cringle (hole) ? as the pully can be used also. can the reefing lines be attached to the same ? or cheat and contact the PO. AS ALWAYS GO SAFE.

The track is on the front of the mast and is surely a spinn pole track...

Actually this make sense, esp given the snap shackle (which wouldn't work all that well for a cunningham) and the lead 'across' the mast section doesn't work for that either very well..

I'd be surprised to see a barberhauler on a Cal 29, but there you go....

Pole downhaul is also possible, but it's not the usual way of rigging one. It would have the advantage of not needing adjustment on every guy trim, but lacks the 'foreguy' forward pull that helps keep the pole on the tack, making twingers pretty much required.
