Re: books on basic sailing..

I own several sailing books but I have a few favorite, including this one:

Sailing Essentials: DK Publishing: 9781465408501: Amazon.com: Books Sailing Essentials: DK Publishing: 9781465408501: Amazon.com: Books

which is the only sailing book that also goes sailing with me. A little more oriented to cruising than keelboat sailing but a great reference guide!

Re: books on basic sailing..

I am a relative newcomer to sailing as well. My first book was the Dennis Conner and Michael Levitt book, Learn to Sail. It was an easy read for me and by that I am pointing out no prior sailing knowledge before reading the book.

Good Luck, fair winds, and following seas.

Re: books on basic sailing..

SAIL POWER by Wallace Ross has been my reference for over 20 years. It is loaded with good information. I was reviewing traveler and leech line settings this afternoon. It may seem overwhelming and a bit intimidating at first, but all the basics are there and the advanced too. This book shows me how much I still have to learn about boat handling.

Re: books on basic sailing..

By the way, my brother in law just sent me a copy of "Chapman Piloting and Seamanship", by Elbert S. Maloney. This is an amazing book!

925 pages. May take me a while.
