Singlehanded Sailing Organizations

Does anyone know of any organizations that promote and encourage singlehanded sailing, especially on the Great Lakes? I do know about the Great Lakes Singlehanded Sailing Society, but their requirements for membership are for people who already ARE expert singlehanded sailors -- like ya gotta finish the Chicago - Mackinac Singlehanded Race and I''m not ready for that. I''d like to find an organization that puts out a newsletter, that perhaps has a website, and that generally is geared to those of us who are not yet experts in singlehanded sailing. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks and enjoy the winter planning.

Lake Michigan Single Handed Society runs a couple of events each year to encourage short handed sailing. The LM double Hander leaves out of Racine, WI late June. They also run a solo race, but this year is across the lake and back and requires a qualifier that runs every other year. They really do not offer any newsletters, but the events do put you in the company of like minded people. the double hander is a lot of fun and runs from Racine to Kenosha and then to Port Washington - 65 miles. you can single hand it if you want.http://www.lmssonline.com/
