Thanks Mark, good advice all. sailing and forking (is that a word?) The company name was, well it was a goverment company, lets say. Sure we all had class room trainig and tests for all the lift equipment. My favorite wreck was the meanest s.o.b. at the place, hauling ass with his forks all the way down "going forward". They caught on something. The fork truck stopped, but not him and hit the lift clylinder dead center with his face. Couldn''t have happened to a nicer guy. I couldn''t laugh, I was out ranked. Not outside anyway. I just want to see this trucker sail because he wants too, not because we say he shouldn''t. None of us knew it all, the first time we left the dock alone. Especially me. I hope you have a nice MLK day. See you on the water. plmcdld

hello TruckDriver,

my experience is very little but a friend who started sailing at hi fouties (he is 60 now) told me the following when i was asking him how he started learning, bought his first boat etc:

he said that after the basics he got a 30foot sailboat etc.

but the real learning lessons he said he took them by taking part in local races (with his 30foot boat) and having crew that were all better than him!!!

indeed, there is a lot of availability for crew that would like to come to your boat for a local half-day or longer race.

if you manage to ensure that are not starters, you will get to learn a hell of a lot of things from them.

basicaly, you will be getting free lessons on your boat!
