Offshore Sailing School (Colgate) is a great school, although, I'm sure your chemistry with the individual instructor matters. My wife took their liveaboard course and went from having never sailed in her life to being a fairly competent fair weather sailor in 7 days. I was amazed. She did her course with that school in Tortola, but I doubt location matters for education quality.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

Re: Sailing school reviews

Thanks. I have never sailed and I'm looking for good options. I ran across their ad in a mag and have looked over the website. Now trying to follow up with some recommendations

Re: Sailing school reviews

My wife and I used Offshore in Captiva last October for ASA 101 (5 days). The course was thorough and gave us experience and confidence in all the knowledge areas the class advertised. Class is four hours a day, and since we were the only two in our class during the "shoulder season," we spent about 75% on the Colgate 25 in the Gulf. We plan to use them again for ASA 103/104, probably in Tortola. Our instructor calmly worked us through mistakes.

Re: Sailing school reviews

I talked to one of the reps at Offshore and they seem like they will give you thorough instruction.

Re: Sailing school reviews

The period in the tourist season in between the slowest season (summer) and when the area (Captiva) is jammed with those escaping winter. Room rates are more reasonable, crowds thinner, etc.
The downside - not everything is open, or they are open fewer hours as shops and restaurants ramp up for the busy season.
