Sailing in the D.C. area

Hi! Just joined SailNet, I'm a novice sailor looking to get back into it. I took ASA lessons about 5 years back and sailed up to a 28', but I think need to get the basics on a smaller boat and really learn to sail. I'm looking for some advice/recommendations on a good place to rent a sail boat in the D.C. area. When I was in Houston I joined a club that had a number of boats to rent, I'd love to find that kind of setup again. I'm guessing it's not uncommon. I'm thinking I'll start out on the Potomac (it's easy to get to) and head to the bay maybe next season. If anyone has recommendations on a good spot to rent from and/or take a lesson in the area I'd appreciate it! I'm just starting to poke around the boards, lots of good stuff for someone in my position!

I know you said you want to wait till next season but the Annapolis area has the most options. Port Annapolis has daysailers for rent and I believe there are 1 or 2 ASA companies there. The short drive is worth it.

Chesapeake Sailing School on Bembe Beach Road in Annapolis has Tanzer 22s available for charter for former students. You may be able to "test out" or present enough evidence to charter one. They're on Back Creek in Annapolis near the Port Annapolis Marina. Here's the web site:

If you are in downtown DC, try www.dcsail.org They are now operating out of Gangplank Marina on the SW waterfront.

TJ: There is also the Marina on the Potomac on the George Washington Parkway just outside of Alexandria. That is a very nice marina and it is convenient to DC.
