Auto Pilot ST-4000

I''m a fairly new owner of a Catalina 30 with the ST 4000 Auto Pilot. My question is while sailing with the AP steering, with every wave/swell the AP continously corrects the steering to maintain the course heading. The result is what looks to be a zig-zag course by looking at the wake. Is there a way to get the AP to "relax" a little and allow for the wave/swell?

I have the ST4000+. Mine does that only off the wind in a strong breeze.

Read the manual. There is an "adjustment" for that. It involves motoring in circles as I recall.

does this only happen while running?
