ASA/RYA Instructor wanted Sep 2006 in the BVI

I'm looking for an ASA or RYA certified instructor to teach me both the normal curriculum and concentration on short-handed sailing (perhaps also single-handed sailing) in the British Virgin Islands on a 45" Sloop in Mid-to-late September. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This is a paid position I take it? I would contact the ASA and see if they have anyone listed as a instructor working in the BVIs. They probably have an instructor database of some sort. The real problem is that you're giving pretty short notice, and most of the good instructors will have been booked months ahead...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Zanshin,

Do a search of ASA schools in the location of your choice. They will probably design something for you and supply the instructor. If not, they will have a list of instructors that they can point you to. I would not worry about the short notice. Many of the ASA schools have a longer list of instructors, some fully employed and some contract workers, then they have classes.

45' is quite a starter boat.

Thanks for the responses. I did look at the schools, but the reason that I was looking for an unaffiliated instructor was that I was being quoted rates of $200 per diem plus a $500 "setup" fee for the school. And those are rates for a teacher on your own boat.
