I'm looking for sailing schools on the East Coast.
I am familiar with Wooden Boats, they have 3 classes I'd like but dont give discounts for multiple classes. When they come out with their 2007 class list I'll check back with them.
Long ago, when the world was young I did some small boat sailing, but want to get well grounded, including coastal cruising, and ketch handling.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Where on the east coast? There are plenty of schools in New England, particularly in Newport and Boston. There are also plenty of schools down in the Chesapeake area. The criteria that will narrow your search a lot is the emphasis on ketch handling, as all of the schools I know of sail sloop rigged boats, not ketchs or yawls. I can't think of any that have a ketch as a training vessel off the top of my head.
Wooden Boat does have a Ketch class, but others that have ketches if desired,
I'm mainly interested in a basic course, with certification, and another coastal cruising one,
any references appreciated. NE is fine, thats really where I expected to go. I think there are a couple on Lake Huron featuring small boats I might get to this spring or early summer. Hopefully.
If, they'd give a discount for multiple classes I would have chosen a months worth at Wooden Boat, they have some good ones listed, especially the off shore ones.
I found another in NC that looks doable, its also near a boat that I want to go look at.
maybe in a combo with Wooden Boat. But still looking at all options.
Actually, to me the more different ones the better.
A ketch or cutter look like the boats I am most apt to wind up with.
