Take crewing on a racing boat with a grain of salt. You can learn a lot, for sure, but some captains are real uptight. Not all of them, of course. Look for opportunities to get on casual day sails with everyday cruisers and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, too.

1) Go sailing as much as possible.
2) Sail a lot.
3) Take every opportunity to sail.

The original post was over a year old and was reserected two days ago.
I thought this looked familiar.
The OP has not been around for 8months, probably out sailing very safely with all the good advise they got right here.
Even though the OP is not around, you guys gave great advise.
