Where are you going to be sailing and what is your budget... also, will you be wanting to keep the boat in the water or on a trailer???

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Still haven't mentioned where you'll be sailing and what your budget is.

What kind of sailing will you be doing? Day sailing, weekend trips, coastal cruises, etc? The more information you give, the better the answers you will get as a general rule. Also, if you make it like pulling teeth to give information, you're far less likely to get useful help.

Hmm.. The Cape Dory 25 and the J/24 are both good starter boats... The first is a full-keel, exceptionally seaworthy boat, the latter a very popular one-design racing boat that has a small cabin. What are your eventual sailing plans???

I'm not thinking of any racing or anything major, I just love to go out and sail. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll go look them up.

there are dozens of boats that would make good starter boats, depending on your budget and what kind of sailing you want to do.
