Sailing vs Boating

Ok, been around the boards and just wondering what do you define the differance as? Sailing would seem to be a sailboat, but does it classify as boating as well? Do you consider boating to be a differreant animal then sailing?
just curious.
also i couldnt find a sailing magazine at the grocery so i bought a motorboat magazine. they sell ALOT of GPS devices for motorboats. do they sell them for sailboats to?
where does the power from a sailboat come from? like lights and gps power etc etc.? rechargable batteries? what is battery life like? short? ok im rambeling.....

Sailboats mainly use Deep Cycle batteries and charge them with the wind, sun, etc.

Sailing is hanging an expensive bit of rag out in the wind and calling it free. Boating is floating about trying to stop the water getting in. Doing it in style is called yachting.

The waters may be blue, but with solar & wind power, we're green.

Consider this: Boating is any form of craft that can carry a person(s) on the water from point A to Point B. That can be by motor boat, canoe, sea kayak, and by sailboat. As the name implies, motor boat (powerboat) uses an engine to propel the boat. Whereas, a sailboat will primarily depend on the use of sails to use the wind as its means of propulsion. Sailboats of the larger variety will also have an alternate means of propulsion, and that is a motor, ie: outboard, or inboard. This motor is generally used for getting in and out of the marina and for those times where there is no wind. That is the gist of it. Powerboaters like the speed of being able to get to their destinations quickly. Where sailboaters like the challenges that come from getting to your destinations under wind power alone. It is not fast but "You will never have so much fun going slow in your life"

All sailors are boaters, but not all boaters are sailors...(I've never liked the word "boater" anyway, I always thought a boater was a straw hat)

Okay at the risk of blasphemy and flames, I'll say it....

Sailors are closer to God than powerboaters....

Okay, I can't resist a joke, and you've given me a straight line...

Bob and Tim were lifelong sailors and racers, they made a pact that whoever died first would tell the other what heaven was like--was there sailing??

Well, Bob died first, and some time later, he appeared to Tim in a dream and said, "Tim, I have good news and bad news". Tim said he'd take the good first.

"They have a fleet of really nice racing sloops, all identical, the wind's 12-17 knots and steady every day, the water's fine, no current, the Race Committee is excellent, and always sets a square line and a good course"

"So what's the bad news?", Tim asked..

"You're crewing for me this Sunday"...

Sailing is sometimes defined as traveling very slowly at great expense.
