Chicago to Detroit

I am looking to take a cruise from Chicago to Detroit, passing under Mackinac Bridge. Only two of us will be taking this cruise, and it will be on a Catalina 25, or Hunter 26. The only problem is, I have no idea on where to stay at night, or whether I should anchor or dock. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Lake Michigan should be easy - sail/motor until ready to call it a day and head in. There are decent harbors all the way to Charlevoix, then Mackinaw City/St. Ignace at the bridge. Once past the bridge (on Lake Huron) you will find places to stop few and far between until you are half way to Detroit.

As far as anchoring/docking - depends on what your needs are and how much you are anticipating spending.

Did this trip in reverse.
Never had a problem finding a good harbor to stay at.
We had a slip everynight.
Went with the 50mile a day plan.

Get, if you don't already have, Ports-O-Call Cruising Guides.
They have one for L. Michigan and L. Huron.

Our favorites along the route.
Beaver Island (Land of the Strange) and
Presque Isle.
