Hello,

I used to have a Newport 28, and I wrote a short ms word doc that showed how the single line reefing line was run. If you are interested I could send you a copy. If someone has a place to post it, that would be fine too.

That would be great! If it's not too long you can send it as a post, and it can probably be stored here somewhere.

can't post it

Hi,

I can't post it here because it has a lot of pictures. It's in MS word format. Send me an email with your return address and I will email it to you.

Barry

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

BTW, Barry was kind enough to send me his document on setting up reefing lines on a Newport 28, which is available as a PDF file here.

Looks like you are attending the best sailing school I can think of, the University of Hard Knocks.

I get a lot of education from UHK... Glad to hear you're ok and one the wiser.

I have a laminated tiller on the V-21 and after one season, it too is showing signs of delam. The tillers, main and spare, on Oh Joy are both solid mahogany. Reefing points. Oh Joy is my first boat with those and she has a lot of 'em. She's got doubles on the staysail, triples on the main and a single for the mizzen. All of these sails have ties spaced about a foot apart all across the sails on both sides at the reefing levels. You reef these bad boys and they don't come loose. All that extra yarn probably disrupts flow somewhat but ya can't tell it by her performance.
