Captain's schools,

I guess it's time I got my captain's license.

Anybody have any sea schools they'd reccommend?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cliff

Captain School

I attended the Mariners School. They have classes up and down the east coast. No test at Coast Guard facility. Moderately priced, spoon fed material geared toward their test. Avoid the come ons to get medical exams at their facility and the continuous promotion of a "license consultant" to help you through the process. You can find out anything you need to know on the CG site.

Did the Mariners School this Summer - OUPV, Masters, and sail endorsement. Don't expect to learn much more than the answers to 600 questions. The advantage to a school is that the question pool is reduced from 6000 to 600 questions and they cover those questions in the courses. The plotting is what usually trips people up so practice this section as much as possible. The Mariners school also now has the OUPV on line and also has practice test. After the OUPV, the rest of the tests are a breeze.

Not to hijack the thread, but can someone explain the sail endorsement to me? If you just wanted to do basic sailing charters with 6 or less passengers, would the OUPV be enough?

also be prepared for the background check of your life SINCE 9-11 the coast gaurd really digs into your past sailing endorsment is just a couple of extra questions/test they throw at you

yea you'll take
1.rules
2. navigation(((these 2 good enough for 6 pk))
3. sailing endosment/towing endosment
4.masters
if you plan on sailing charters you will need the sailing endorment
